Education problem?

Date: Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Today, I felt embarrassed to be an RVian. Here is what happened on the bus journey home in 963.

It was super crowded at the bus stop opposite school bcos the year 1-4 were all squeezing and pushing and behaving like kiasu singaporean citizens, squeezing their way up the bus. Then in the bus, everyone seem to be talking at the same time. It was so noisy, I could not really tolerate the noise level. Like the self evaluation we did today, my peers evaluated low tolerant level on my part. So I just had to pretend to meditate and ignore the noises. The bus drove to the NUH bus stop. That was when something that made me embarrassed to be an RVian happened.

RVians were too busy chatting in their own world, ignoring everything, especially the year 1-3, which I distinguish according to uniform. They were occupying a huge part of the bus, considering that the bus was quite small. As usual, many people wanted to get up at the NUH stop, unfortunately, there was no space, as everyone was too caught up talking and talking. Then the bus driver shouted in chinese: 移进去!没有位子!不要再讲话了!移进去!真是没有公德心,上巴士也不懂得移进去!而且还是立化中学!那不是一所好学校吗?为什么把学生教成这样子,不懂得做好公民。But that was not the worst and most insulting to RVians. More was to come as an old man passenger, around in his 60s came up and started speaking too.

Then he suddenly pointed to an RV boy who had his earpieces plucked into his ears, then he scolded that boy: 从刚才到现在都看到你没有动到,身体弱啊?(it was dripping with sacarsm) 不能让为啊?年纪轻轻就这样,去喝补汤!Then he spoke in dialect and said: They all do not have brains, they do not know how to give way. The future is bleak, they do not have proper education. Then he keep stressing the point that even 立化also like that, then other schools how. Then he kept on criticising our school. He kept talking and talking until one junior in front stood up and give way to him. Then he said he did not want to sit. He said he just want to scare us?! For the whole bus journey he was talking and talking about failed government policies and how students now only know how to get 8 A1s but are no use to society. They are a burden to society.

I think there would be a letter from the Members Of The Public tomorrow, bcos many people were staring at us. I felt embarrassed for the school.

This left me to think and ponder about his words. He seemed very against us, and he was stereotyping the whole school bcos of one bunch of people. Although I think we have done wrong, and been too noisy.

How will our future be if all young singaporeans are selfish as the old man claimed? I seriously don't know...
